What is the Difference Between Botox and Dysport?

What is the Difference Between Botox and Dysport?

Throughout the past decade, non-surgical wrinkle reduction and prevention have rapidly been gaining popularity. Both men and women can enjoy a younger-looking appearance that aligns with how they feel on the inside. With the wide range of injectables available, it can be difficult to differentiate between them all unless you’re a trained professional.

LaserSmart Skin & Body Institute offers both Botox® and Dysport®. Depending on your individual needs, you may be better suited for one over the other. Today, we’ll take a closer look at both to help determine which option might be right for you.

How Does Treatment Work?

Botulinum toxin injections act as a type of neuromodulator for deep, dynamic wrinkles. By minimizing nerve-muscle communication, Botox® and Dysport® are able to temporarily relax unwanted lines and wrinkles. When strategically placed, the injectables can produce dramatic, yet natural-looking results.

Both Botox® and Dysport® are done in a simple, in-office visit. Treatments take just a few short minutes, and side effects are minimal, allowing you to quickly return to your typical day-to-day activities. Most patients are able to schedule their appointment during a lunch break or while out and about running errands.

What Areas Can Be Treated?

Botulinum-based injections are most commonly used on the upper portion of the face. Botox®, for example, is typically used to address forehead lines, crow’s feet, and glabellar wrinkles. Dysport® is a slightly thinner, more spreadable gel that is better suited for many small wrinkles on a broad area such as lines between the eyebrows.

Both Botox® and Dysport® have a variety of off-label uses as well. Botulinum toxin injectables are best for wrinkles caused by repetitive facial movements. If you’re bothered by lines and wrinkles from sun damage, you may be better suited for dermal fillers.

What Results Can I Expect?

Patients can typically see some results right away. However, an optimal outcome from treatment can be seen 2-4 after Dysport® and 3-5 days after Botox®. Although noticeable results from Dysport® are generally faster, Botox® tends to have longer-lasting outcomes. Botox® can smooth fine lines and wrinkles for 4-6 months, while Dysport® will gradually fades in 3-4 months. Maintenance treatments are safe and effective as needed to prolong the outcome of your initial procedure.

Botox® Vs. Dysport®: Which is Best for Me?

The best way to determine which treatment is right for you is through an in-person consult with a skilled provider. Dysport® is intended for moderate to severe glabellar lines rather than minor concerns. Botox® may be a better option for you if you’d like to achieve preventative care or address specific wrinkles.

Your LaserSmart specialist will assess your concerns and speak with you about your short and long-term goals. Together, you can customize a treatment plan that will provide you with natural-looking results for your individual case.
